California Coastal Cleanup Day

It’s that time of year again and residents and businesses alike are coming together in Laguna Beach for it’s Annual Coastal Cleanup Day, a statewide campaign in partnership with the California Coastal Commission and the Adopt-A-Beach program to Make Trash Extinct. This is the most important cleanup since the end of summer is usually when you find the most trash left behind. It is also the state of California’s largest beach cleanup of the year and, in Laguna Beach will run from Aliso Creek Beach all the way to Main Beach.

“It is our mission to not only preserve our oceans, but to support local businesses and communities, engaging them to get involved to make our beaches a better place to live, swim, play and surf. After all, what good is the beach if we can't enjoy the ocean?"” says James Pribram, Executive Director of The ECO-Warrior Foundation.

Everyone is invited to come down to one of our cleanup stations in Laguna Beach where gloves and cleanup bags will be provided. Those who are able are encouraged to bring a reusable bucket in lieu of a plastic bag.  Once you pick up your supplies and sign a Coastal Cleanup waiver, you’ll be ready to make a difference.

WHAT IS COASTAL CLEANUP DAY?

Every year, on the third Saturday in September, people join together at sites all over California to take part in the State's largest volunteer event, California Coastal Cleanup Day. In 2014, nearly 67,000 volunteers removed more than 1,190,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from California's beaches, lakes, and waterways. Families, friends, coworkers, scout troops, school groups, service clubs, and individuals come together to celebrate and share their appreciation of California's fabulous coast and waterways. The event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by the Ocean Conservancy, which is the largest volunteer event on the planet!
