The Live Litter Free Education Initiative Is Here
Authentic Engagement, Purposeful Action
These lesson plans are grounded in the concept of ecosystem interconnectedness which helps frame discussions around the impact of human activity on the natural environment. Each series is dedicated to supporting student inquiry and place-based learning in a grade-level appropriate format. Students at all levels will come away with an understanding of the concept of litter and the threat it poses, will conduct place-based learning walks in their communities, and ultimately identify a litter problem in their area and develop a workable solution.
All lesson plans were developed by Dr. Tammie Visintainer and Dr. Grinell Smith at the San Jose State University College of Education. Lessons are in compliance with NGSS standards and are dedicated to promoting knowledge acquisition and understanding around what litter is and where it comes from. The curriculum is flexible and cooperative and intended to keep students engaged while fostering an understanding of the effects of litter and the imperative of living a litter-free life.
